THE LEAD EVZONAS

The Evzones (= well-belted) are selective elite soldiers of the Greek army. Through their historic actions during the Revolution period of 1821, Evzones have been turned into symbols of bravery and courage for the Greek people.

Nowadays "Evzones" are referred as members of the Presidential Guard, who perform symbolic and ceremonial missions. They are primary guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as the Presidential Mansion.
